Shinjuku Salmon Run

Shinjuku Salmon Run is an octet piece for trumpet, tenor saxophone (optional Alto Saxophone), trombone, guitar, vibraphone, piano, bass and drum set written to celebrate drummer Sean Skeete and guitarist Rick Peckham as they walked against a sea of commuters at Shinjuku Station in Tokyo, Japan. This fun and challenging piece is a romp through Rock, Latin and Ska grooves with fun melodic lines, ensemble playing and solo section.

Urgent

Urgent is a rocking, up tempo, Mingus-esque Jazz octet piece which features a trumpet, guitar and vibraphone lead on the main melody. The ensemble joins the melody's climax. There is fun soloing on a 28-measure form. The piece also features an open drum solo and chamber ensemble section that leads back to the out chorus.  This is a challenging piece with great energy!

Piece of Mind, Suite Piece Mvt. 1

Suite Piece is a five movement cycle for Jazz octet for soprano saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, vibraphone, piano, bass and drum set based on a four-note cell. Piece of Mind is the first movement of the cycle.  It announces the theme of the suite and features open soloing for soprano saxophone and piano.  The ensemble playing is intricate and challenging though not demanding.

Piece of Heart, Suite Piece Mvt. 2

Piece of Heart is the second movement of Suite Piece. Continuing the evolution of the original theme, this Jazz octet pieces is composed for soprano saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, vibraphone, piano, bass and drum set.  It takes the players and audience on an impassioned journey starting with an open trombone solo.  Trombone carries the initial melody as well, which builds to a rocking ensemble section. There is an open 14-measure solo section with linear backgrounds.  The pieces features melodic sections of six and seven bar phrases, which flow nicely in the 9/8 groove.
