Taught by teachers from Berklee and organized by the initiative of the Gabonese Republic, these workshops are designed to foster the discovery and study of performance techniques in contemporary music. These workshops are for all musicians—instrumentalists and vocalists alike—from classical to traditional who are interested in developing the skills to be well-rounded contemporary musicians. The program is open to applicants from any African nation who meet the eligibility requirements.

The program will present classes in lecture and master class formats on topics such as instrumental and vocal technique, improvisation, and harmony. Students will then apply these skills in ensembles and special lectures.

Translators will be available for all classes. Students must be from an African nation, must be between the ages of 18 and 30, and must have been playing or singing for a minimum of six months to attend the program.

This workshop is graciously supported by the Gabonese Republic and is free to students who are admitted.

Berklee at PROJAZZ 2016 April

Durante abril, destacados profesores y directivos de Berklee College of Music visitarán el Instituto Profesional Projazz, presentando diferentes master clases relacionadas a la composición e improvisación en el jazz con entrada liberada y abiertas al público interesado.

La visita se enmarca en la primera audición masiva que la destacada escuela norteamericana hace en nuestro país, en búsqueda de nuevos talentos que puedan continuar sus estudios en Boston.

Las audiciones se realizarán los días 5 y 6 de abril de 2016 entre las 9 de la mañana y las 5 de la tarde en dependencias de IP Projazz  tras un proceso de postulación on line, directamente en el portal de la institución norteamericana.

Las master  clases agendades se realizarán el 4 de abril y  estarán a cargo de Jane Miller, Rick DiMuzio, Jason Camelio y Alexia Rosari.

DiMuzio y Camelio son reconocidos músicos y docentes de Berklee y sus charlas estarán orientadas a temas relacionados con el jazz contemporáneo y la improvisación, y a entregar herramientas para los compositores y arreglistas. El encuentro con Rosari estará enfocado en la transmisión de consejos y directrices a todos los postulantes que audicionarán para Berklee en las jornadas siguientes.

Para finalizar el día de actividades, se realizará una jam session con los profesores de Berklee y alumnos y docentes de Projazz.

9:30 am Jane Miller “Chord Melody”

La guitarrista, compositora, arreglista y titulada de Berklee College of Music, Jane Miller, presentará  la charla “Chord Melody” en el auditorio Ramón Carnicer de Projazz el 4 de abril a las 9:30 horas.

En este encuentro, Miller nos acercará a la práctica conocida como “Chord Melody”, término usado sin traducción por los guitarristas y que cuando se domina logra simular el efecto de las ejecuciones simultáneas de melodía y acordes en el piano.

Jane Miller es líder del Jane Miller Group, con quienes ya ha editado 3 discos de estudio. Además es guitarrista del trío de jazz Miller- Clark- Miller, junto al saxofonista Cercie Miller y el bajsta David Clark. Miller además es colaboradora para las revistas Acoustic Guitar Magazine, Classical Guitar Magazine, Premier Guitar Magazine y Guitar Sessions.

11:30 am Rick DiMuzio “Improvisación en el jazz contemporáneo”

El próximo 4 de abril en nuestro campus Ramón Carnicer se desarrollará la master class del saxofonista, compositor y profesor de Berklee College of Music, Rick DiMuzio, titulada “Improvisación en el jazz contemporáneo”.

Líder del ensamble que lleva su nombre, DiMuzio es músico estable de agrupaciones como Greg Hopkins’ Jazz Orchestra, Leo Blanco Quartet, Bert Seager Quartet y Fernando Huergo Quintet. Además, ha grabado con artistas como David Liebman, Steve Grossman, Bill Perkins, Jaleel Shaw, Kenny Wheeler, Conrad Herwig, Lage Lund, Danilo Pérez, James Williams, Leo Genovese, Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington, Roger Humphries, Francisco Mela y Jamey Haddad. Su disco debut se titula First Offerings,  está compuesto por composiciones propias y se encuentra disponible en iTunes.

DiMuzio es también profesor de Berklee College of Music, donde está a cargo de ramos de entrenamiento auditivo, improvisación, saxofón y ensamble. Es doctor en composición titulado del New England Conservatory y Magister en Jazz de la Eastman School of Music.

El compositor, trombonista, guitarrista y arreglista Jason Camelio desarrollará la master class “El mapa para un compositor y arreglista” a las 15:00 horas en el campus Ramón Carnicer del Instituto Profesional Projazz.

La actividad se enmarca en la primera audición masiva que Berklee College of Music hace en nuestro país, en búsqueda de nuevos talentos que puedan continuar sus estudios en la destacada escuela norteamericana de Boston.

Camelio lidera la agrupación Bending Dogma, además es cofundaror de la Big Bang Evolutionary Big Band (BBEBB), compuesta sólo por alumnos de Berklee y es guitarrista de la a grupación de rock Dúbh.

Como trombonista, Jason se ha presentado en destacados escenarios internacionales, como el Festival de Jazz de República Dominicana, Beantown Jazz Festival, Hue Festival de Vietnam, Panamá Jazz Festival, entre otros.

Como el director de Iniciativas Globales de Berkleee College of Music, Jason trabaja junto a un equipo de personas creativas ya apasionadas por la educación, para que jóvenes talentos cumplan sus metas musicales.

Para todos los inscritos e interesados en la audición que Berklee College of Music realizará en Projazz este abril, la Directora de Reclutamiento para Pre y Postgrado de la casa de estudios de Boston, Alexia Rosari, presentará la charla “Cómo preparar la audición para Berklee” el próximo 4 de abril a las 17:00 horas.

La primera audición masiva que la destacada escuela norteamericana hará en nuestro país, se realizará los días 5 y 6 de abril de 2016 entre las 9 de la mañana y las 5 de la tarde en el campus Ramón Carnicer del Instituto Profesional Projazz.

Alexia es Directora de Reclutamiento para Pre y Postgrado de Berklee College of Music. Nacida en Suiza, comenzó su carrera musical como cantante y compositora a comienzo de los ‘90s. En 1994 fue elegida para ser parte de la versión europea del musical Chicago. En 1999 se graduó de Berklee en Producción e Ingeniería y ha trabajado componiendo para compañías a cargo de programas televisivos como Plaza Sesamo.

The Berklee in Puerto Rico program offers students access to the Berklee method of music education, encompassing harmony, ear training, improvisation, ensemble performance, and instrumental instruction. During the program, interested students may audition to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Berklee in Puerto Rico is made possible with generous support from Berklee alumnus and trustee Luis Alvarez '83, vice president of Mendez & Company, Inc. and executive producer of the Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest. In addition to helping coordinate the program, Alvarez and his corporation generously support Berklee scholarships with the Mendez & Co. Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest Scholarship, which will be awarded at the end of the Berklee in Puerto Rico program.

The City of Praia, in conjunction with the Kriol Jazz Festival and University of Cape Verde, is pleased to present the inaugural Berklee in Cape Verde 2015 program. This two-day performance program will create opportunities for students, young musicians and music instructors in Cape Verde to participate in lectures, master classes, ensembles and other presentations highlighting a number of aspects of professional musicianship taught in the Berklee methodology.

Additionally, this program will help Berklee to identify skilled and talented college-aged musicians from Cape Verde to be awarded merit-based scholarships to attend Berklee summer programs in Boston, MA, USA, in addition to a scholarship for one online course offered through Berklee Online.
